Bifurcation analysis of a power-factor-correction boost converter: uncovering fast-scale instability
نویسندگان
چکیده
Bifurcation analysis is performed to a power-factor-correction (PFC) boost converter to examine the fast-scale instability problem. Computer simulations and analysis reveal the possibility of period-doublingfor some intervals within the line cycle. The results allow convenient prediction of stability boundaries. Analytical equations and design curves are given to facilitate the selection of parameter values to guarantee stable operation.

This paper investigates the fast-scale instability in a power-factor-correction (PFC) boost converter under a conventional average current-mode control. The converter is operated in continuous mode. Computer simulations and theoretical analysis are performed to study the e ects of the time-varying input voltage under the variation of some chosen parameters on the qualitative behaviour of the sy...
متن کاملHopf bifurcation as an Intermediate-Scale Instability in Single-Stage Power-Factor-Correction Power supplies: Analysis, Simulations and Experimental Verification
This paper reports intermediate-scale instability in a single-stage power-factor-correction (PFC) power supply that employs a cascade configuration of a boost stage operating in discontinuous conduction mode (DCM) and a forward stage operating in continuous conduction mode (CCM). The two stages combine into a single stage by sharing one main switch and one control loop to achieve input PFC and ...
متن کاملFast-scale bifurcation in power-factor-correction buck-boost converters and effects of incompatible periodicities
In this paper, we derive the discrete-time model for the power-factor-correction (PFC) buck-boost converter in terms of a stroboscopic switching map. Fast-scale instability is analysed through a fold diagram, which exposes the periodicity of the operation as well as the locations of the critical phase angles of the line voltage at which instability begins to occur along a half-line cycle. The a...

This paper investigates the interaction of fast-scale and slow-scale bifurcations in the boost converter under current-mode control operating in continuous conduction mode. Effects of varying some chosen parameters on the qualitative behaviors of the system are studied in detail. Analysis is performed to identify the different types of bifurcation. Boundaries of stable region, slow-scale bifurc...
